December 2007: Cease to Begin (Band of Horses)
« Thread Started on Dec 11, 2007, 5:10pm »

This album came out two months ago, before the Canker website was in existence. Just because we weren't yet featuring albums doesn't mean that Band of Horses' sophomore effort, Cease to Begin (Sub Pop) should go unrecognized.

If you weren't aware of Band of Horses after the release of their first album, Everything All The Time, in 2006, you probably are now, considering their songs have been featured in video games, television shows (including, unfortunately, the O.C.), and commercials. Their latest single from Cease to Begin, "Is There a Ghost," receives ample radio play. The band has recently been featured in magazines such as NME, Filter, and HARP and appeared on NPR's Morning Edition.

What makes Cease to Begin so great is that it is able to carry the momentum from the band's first album in more toned-down, reflective songs. The compositions are beautiful, the lyrics are romantic, and the production, done by Phil Ek (who has also worked with Built to Spill and The Shins), is flawless.

Cease to Begin is a perfect album for cold, quiet winter days, evoking memories of past joys and present, heart-wrenching loves, and making it Canker's featured album for December.
